rather than simply designing things to fit in living rooms, we thought our products would integrate more naturally when inspired by materials and elements that are already there. this is where the “slice of living†concept came from. the “slice of living†concept stems from the idea of taking slices of atmospheres, scenes and manners from living rooms, and incorporating these elements into our designs. for example, a plate on a table, books stacked together, propped-up drawings and pictures
- there are many things in our surroundings that are slate-shaped. we took slate-like objects to create motifs in our product design. during the design process, we thoroughly tested the size, thickness, and angles of the slates, we sought the highest stability and most attractive balance upon assembly of the product, including concealing the cables within the stand. living rooms feature all kinds of materials, including wood, stone, glass and metal. keeping this in mind, we prepared and tested various mock-ups, experimenting with colours, shapes, and textures. through user preference research, we established a design direction and after discussing the designs with engineers,
we created many prototypes to bring our designs to fruition. we believe the viewing experience itself, derived from the entire room, is crucial. expanding our focus from the design of standalone tvs to the design of the living room experience is a key message of “slice of living.†we hope to make this a new standard where tvs can stand by quietly, not disrupting the comfortable living room atmosphere.
