welcome back in urdu lesson in this lesson, you will learn names of some common and traditional kitchen accessories people used in india and pakistan let’s have a start pipkin = handi (hand-dee) wok = karrahi (karr-rra-he) funnel = qeeif (qee-eef) mortar = hawen destah (haa-one- das-tah) rooling pin = baylen (bayy- lan)


wooden spoon = doi (du-ee) spices = misaleh (mie-saa-layeh) tong = chimta (chim-taa) churner = madhani (mad-ha-nee) clay oven, its traditional oven very common in india and pakistan clay oven = tansoor (tand-dur) however, a modern electric oven is still oven in urdu and hindi languages blowing pipe = phonkni (phoonk-nee) suspan = degchi (deyg-chi)


lid = dhakkan (dhak-kan) strainer = chhalni (chhal-ni) bowl = payaalah (pay-aa-lah) or sometimes people say “katora” “katora” it’s in hindi language bowl = payaalah or katora iron pan = tawa (taw-wah) it is traditional pan and very common in india and pakistan spoon = chamach (cham-mech)


for = kanta ladle = chamchah (cham-cha-h) the smaller one is “chamcha” and the bigger is “chamchah” "tray" is also tray like in english language however sometime people say “teshtari” tray = teshtari saucer = pirch "plate" is same like in english language however, in old tradition people called it “rekabi”


plate = rekabi (ray-kaa=bi) jar = martaban (mar-ta-ban) utensil = bartan (ber-tan) porcelain = zoroof (zoo-roof) cup = peali (pay-aa-li) kettle = ketli (ket-li) teapot = chaaye daani (chahye-daa-ni) at home, we say it “chaaye daani” but in hotel culture, they call it “chainak” teapot = chainak


kitchen = baawarchi khana dish towel = saafi knife = chuhree (chur-ree) penknife = chaqu folding knife is “chaqu” cruet = namak dani in urdu language, “namak” is salt matchbox = machas but in old culture, people call it “dia slai”


basket = tookri grate = kadu kash tablecloth = dastar khawan let me tell you what is the actually “dastar khawan” in india and pakistan, people spread a sheet on the ground (like you see in the picture) and they put food on the sheet, it’s called “dastar khawan” tap = toontee (toon-ti) or sometime people say "nal" scales = terazo (tera-zoo)


or sometime people say "kanta" dish soap = sabun chimney = same like in english language coal = koyala (koy- lah) bucket = balti bottle = botel (bu-tal) jug and glass are same like in english language apron = paish band / or same like in english language kitchen shelf is used to put kitchen tools, it is same like in english language
