my name is lydia zimmer. i was born in weimar during gdr times. if you ask me what work i do i always say that i work with books. when you read books, i try to convey the stories behind the books and in the books. literaturecho exists since 2014. i established it in autumn with a first project trip to weimar. i think my passion for books exists since i can remember myself. i grew up in weimar.weimar is a city filled with literature. goethe and schiller lived there.

my grandmother always said that literature was already in my veins. in the gdr you could not travel anywhere at the time. but with books you can travel everywhere.it was freedom, a sense of freedom. during the day i work on a variety of things. some of it involves creative, concentrated individual work, and the rest involves work with external contacts, since i work a lot on my own. i came to switzerland more than ten years ago, fresh after my studies, totally fascinated by a country with four national languages. i was fascinated to know how literaturefunctioned in a country with four languages.

i was lucky to organise projects in the "literaturhaus basel" and also work in the public relations sector. through this way i met, quite fast, great authors and learned to appreciate basel and the diverse and particular literature landscape of switzerland. that’s what actually brought me to switzerland. my vision with literaturecho is to create a platform. this means, to give an opportunity for people to meet and exchange ideas. the speciality of the weimar trips that i organise is the dialogue. the dialogue with me as a guide.i grew up there.

i have memories on every corner that i like to share because i think that with little stories the connection with the city and its people is better understood. the most important part for me during the trips i organise is that people can get in touch with the locals thatlive in the city. the special feeling one gets in this city, that one can imagine walking in the footsteps of goethe two hundred years ago. since i have not lived there for many years now i have both the inner view and the outside view which i would like to convey. this is simply my hearts' desire.

many people speak of wellness weekends with massages. for me a reading retreat is wellness for the soul. it is a timeout. you receive a complete carefree package. food is prepared for you,you don't have to take care of anything. you can just read the books that you bring with you or that you find there, and immerse into their world. and later, when you meet everyone at dinner, you can exchange information about your favourite book or the book that you are currently reading.

usually reading is something very private, but there is always a story behind the story which i would like it to lead in reality to an exchange of experiences. everything that i offer, whether its travel, weekends, moderations, have all directly to do with me as a person. i have over 10 years of work experience and therefore a lot of information about institutions, publishers and books which i enjoy sharing, and i believe that is a good qualityto pass on.
